Collide – My Safety Net

When 2 objects collide there is a change. Let’s look at Abram, the collision course he was on with God and his and our lives are changed.

Now the LORD said to Abram, ”Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation – Gen. 12:1

In the movie Aladdin, the Princess left the palace for the first time ever because she wanted to marry for love and not an arrangement. She meets up with the street rat, Aladdin and through some exciting events she is asked by Aladdin, “Do you trust me?” That was where it all started.

Do you remember doing something for the first time? Maybe the first day of school or riding a bike or maybe learning to swim. It’s kind of scary. If I were to blind fold one of my children and tell them to go to the kitchen to get a drink or a snack they would surely be a little afraid – afraid that they might bump into something, trip and fall or maybe that someone will laugh at them. But if I said to them, “I will walk beside you and hold your hand along the way, TRUST ME”, things would be much different.

Abram and Sarai were told by God to move away to a NEW country.

“Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house,

To the land which I will show you”.

God didn’t tell them where they were going or what they would find. He needed to trust God. This is where we really start to understand the faith of Abram. Abram were 75 years old. Change is a very difficult thing and when you are 75 and throw change in the mix it usually equals “Are you kidding me!”

But God told Abram that He would go with Him; that Abram would not be alone. Even though God didn’t give Abram a lot of details, he chose to trust God. That is where God wants us to be – daily. God calls us to the unknown many times, the unfamiliar and in our eyes the uncertain but it is certain to Him. He knows the outcome and the hardships and successes already. He just wants us to trust in Him.

Lord, help us to trust You as we are moved form what is comfortable and familier into Your service. May we truley make a difference in this world and show the power of Your love to those around use that are suffering that they might come to know You. Amen
